This program was instituted by the American Legion in 1944 to remember War Veterans who are hospitalized, Every year the Sandwich American Legion posts visits local nursing homes and delivers gifts to them to thank them for their service. If you have a veteran in one of the local nursing homes, please let us know so that we can include them in our deliveries.
Every year the Sandwich American Legion selects two young men to attend Boys State. Boys State was started by the American Legion in
1935 and provides young men with the opportunity to participate in the operation of his local, county and state government. During Boys State, individuals will be elected into various offices and activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
This program was instituted by the American Legion in in 2001 as a way to honor children of fallen post-9/11 service members and beginning in 2017 children of veterans with a disability rating of 50 percent or higher.
